The slip in your mailbox: 不在連絡票

A courier came, you weren't home, and now there's a slip with a hold deadline. Here's the 2-minute fix.

What it is

A missed-delivery notice (, gofuzai renrakuhyō) from Japan Post (red), Yamato (black cat logo) or Sagawa (blue). Your package is held at the local depot — usually for 7 days — then returned to the sender.

The two numbers that matter

Tracking number — you need it for redelivery
Hold deadline — after this it goes back

Fastest ways to get redelivery ()

  1. QR code on the slip — opens the courier's redelivery form with details pre-filled. Choose a date and 2-hour window.
  2. Web: Japan Post, Yamato and Sagawa all have English redelivery pages — enter the tracking number.
  3. Phone: automated lines work 24h (Japan Post: 0570-046-666). Have the tracking number ready.
  4. LINE: Yamato's official LINE account does redelivery in a chat.

No redelivery needed: you can also collect it yourself at the listed depot/post office with the slip and ID — useful when you need it today.

Watch out for fakes

Scam SMS messages pretending to be undelivered-package notices are common. A real notice is a paper slip in your mailbox; an SMS with a link asking you to "confirm your address" or pay a fee is phishing.
